NutraCast: Thomas ‘Hal’ Robson-Kanu goes for the gold with turmeric
Thomas Hal Robson-Kanu started The Tumeric Co in 2018 and the golden shots are now being used by teams like Liverpool, Spurs, Everton, and England Rugby, to name a few.
The Turmeric Co. partnered with researchers at Nottingham Trent University to conduct a clinical trial that explored the benefits of turmeric supplementation in the recovery of elite athletes.
The researchers at Nottingham Trent University found that drinking The Turmeric Co’s 60ml turmeric shots twice-a-day allowed players to return to their pre-game fitness faster than those who did not; the turmeric group returned to baseline levels of subjective soreness and blood markers of inflammation quicker than the group that did not consume turmeric.
“Essentially we tested the inflammation blood markers and subjective muscle, soreness, lower body and full body of these athletes. And the results in short showed a 75% reduction in inflammation in the blood post-activity when using our range versus not,” said Robson-Kanu. “We knew there was going to be a positive impact. We didn't know it'd be that much, but for us, it was a tip of the hat to what we've made available to people in all different walks of life.”
Robson-Kanu started theTurmeric Co in 2018, while still playing football internationally for Wales and in the premiership for West Bromwich, Albion.
“I wouldn't recommend it, because it means that you've got two commitments and two quite serious commitments at that. But yeah, no, I personally really enjoyed it. I was able to play at the highest level of professional football while also following a passion and being an athlete.
It was the perfect combination because I was able to really physically push myself, playing at the top level while also mentally really challenging myself too.”
