Melanie Bush says she had a bone to pick with cancer. So when she had an opportunity to utilize a social impact initiative through the Miss America scholarship Organization, she decided to use her platform to focus on cancer prevention and awareness.

She later attended Purdue University-Fort Wayne on a full academic scholarship, earning her bachelor’s and master’s in biology.

“So when it was time to choose a research project in my biology major undergraduate studies, I naturally chose cancer research and then that evolved into immunology and some of the relationships there. And the berry extracts that my mentor at college had available to him were supplied by Artemis International. So I was doing cancer research as part of my biology degree, loving science and that's how I came to know Artemis and so why I finished up my graduate studies, Artemis invited me to come on board. Started off as an intern actually and I never left.”

Over 15 years, later, Bush is the VP of Science and Research at Artemis.
