Multinational health science company Sabinsa has purchased Ayurvedic products brand Nature’s Formulary to drive innovation and to continue to deliver high-quality wellness solutions, according to the organization.

Shaheen Majeed, global CEO and managing director of Sabinsa, said Nature’s Formulary will be folded into Sabina’s consumer goods division which also includes brands America’s Finest and Sanutra Wellness. Sabinsa did not disclose the financial details the deal.

“This acquisition represents a significant milestone in our long-term strategy to further strengthen Sabinsa’s leadership in the natural products industry,” Majeed said.

Sabinsa is known for its raw material and contract manufacturing. The Nature’s Formulary deal means the company can now directly reach consumers.

“This vertical integration allows us to harness the power of our finished formulation brands to get high-quality products into retail stores quickly,” Majeed added. “It enables us to offer consumers better health at a much more affordable price.”

PK Davé, Nature’s Formulary founder and president, will be named CEO of the Sabinsa consumer goods division. Employees at Nature’s Formulary will continue to work under Sabinsa.

“Partnering with Sabinsa presents an incredible opportunity to leverage their global presence and robust infrastructure, while significantly expanding Nature’s Formulary’s impact in the dietary supplement industry,” Davé said. “We are confident that our combined strengths will accelerate our mission to promote holistic health and wellness through Ayurvedic products.”

Increasing efficiency

New York-based Nature’s Formulary was founded nearly 30 years ago as a company that offers all-natural, non-GMO products that are manufactured in the United States. Its supplements are found in stores such as Natural Grocers, Lassens Natural Foods and Vitamins and Mother’s Market and Kitchen.

Products from Nature’s Formulary are manufactured in FDA-inspected facilities with a focus on vegan, gluten-free supplements. The company offers the Ayurvedic dosha test, which measures physical, mental and emotional characteristics of the supplement user.

“The integration of Nature’s Formulary’s SKUs and their existing distribution partners is now a major focus for us, as it offers a fast track to reaching the market with high-quality products,” Majeed said.

On average, a new ingredient from Sabinsa, which would include the gold standard of at least two clinical trials, would take 18 to 24 months before brands in the industry formulate with the company. Sabinsa is sometimes overlooked in favor of lower-quality commodities simply to obtain a lower price point, Majeed added.

“Only time will tell if we acquire more finished product companies, but our growth in this area is predicated on a single vision: to get the best ingredients—and now the best finished products—into the hands of the consumers,” he said.
