The Vitamin Shoppe and Specnova launch ‘the most important innovation in creatine supplementation in the last 30 years’

The delivery system offers a more precise and controlled active ingredient release for improved absorption.

The Vitamin Shoppe and biotech company Specnova recently announced the launch of BodyTech Elite Creatine Beadlets, the first product formulated with Specnova’s new delivery technology, NovaQSpheres.

The capsules are filled with tiny red beadlets, which are formulated with four layers of creatine wrapped in polymers that protect creatine waste during digestion, provide greater creatine muscle saturation and support prolonged muscle feeding and uptake.

“I’ve been involved with creatine for close to 30 years, and it’s one of those ingredients that’s so effective on its own,” said Sebastian Balcombe, founder and CEO of Specnova. “It’s incredibly difficult to improve on it, especially with creatine monohydrate just having such an incredibly high bioavailability. It’s usually looked at as 99% bioavailable or even a tiny bit more. So you don’t really have much of any way to move the needle to really improve on it.”

“But where it has a weakness is getting it from the blood into the muscle tissue, which is largely dependent on a transporter called CRT1 or creatine transporter 1. It’s a protein that moves the creatine across the cell membrane and inside the cell,” Balcombe explained. “There’s a bottleneck between the blood and getting it into the muscle tissue, so that is where we wanted to focus.”
