The vertically-integrated supplier of hemp extracts and cannabinoid ingredients recently introduced HempNANO, its new concentrated nanoemulsion for water soluble applications.

While speaking at Expo West, Kyle Einhorn, Vice President of Sales at HempRise, said the nanoemulsion is changing the way people look at incorporating CBD into beverages.

“Obviously getting CBD and oil into an emulsion is really critical. HempRise has really used their technology internally to develop a nanoemulsion. It's 5% active, goes into solution and stays in solution and doesn't foam. Those are really some real critical elements that most people find as the most challenging when they're adding CBD to a beverage, whether that’s alcoholic or non-alcoholic. We're seeing huge growth in the sparkling water industry and the HempNANO has really been an opportunity for people to get into the market, where they wouldn't have been able to previously, because making an emulsion is a challenging situation, especially when you're looking at a challenging product like CBD.”

The company said the key to a homogenous CBD beverage is through either nanoemulsion or encapsulation, which breaks CBD oil into small droplets and keeps them suspended evenly throughout the beverage. With this nanoemulsion process, the CBD is broken down mechanically by high shear force, then stabilized with emulsifiers, resulting in much better product consistency, stability, and longer product shelf-life.

HempRise boasts one of the largest hemp processing facilities in the US, with a new 100,000-square-foot facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Once the $80-million investment is operating at its full capacity, Einhown said it will be processing 8-10 million pounds of biomass per year, with the potential to scale up to 15 million pounds.
