Gencor to debut new PlexoZome tech with spotlight on recovery
The unveiling is planned during the SupplySide West trade show, Oct. 31 through Nov. 4 in Las Vegas, when the company will showcase “the latest in recovery”, complete with an in-booth experiential PlexoZome hologram.
“Gencor is elated to debut some of our newest scientific supplement formulations at SSW,” said R.V. Venkatesh, co-founder of Gencor.
“We are proud to be hosting and sponsoring important events for our industry and are looking forward to sharing the insights and developments we have worked diligently on to bring wellness solutions and recovery to more people around the globe.”
On the agenda are a “Liposomes: New next generation bioavailability – fact or fiction?” breakfast brief and the co-hosted “What’s Up With Supps” Dark Circus event at the House of Blues.
Innovation in delivery systems
Discovered in 1964 by hematologists Alec Bangham and R.W. Horne, liposomes are tiny, spherical, engineered, nanostructures that mimic the body’s own natural cell membranes. These specialized delivery vehicles offer a wide range of advantages from targeting specific tissues or cells to protecting encapsulated agents from metabolic digestion, resulting in better absorption and efficacy of ingredients.
Maggie McNamara, Marketing Director at Gencor told NutraIngredients-USA that the liposomal PlexoZome technology, developed by sister company Pharmako Biotechnologies, responds to “more and more calls for innovation in delivery systems in the dietary supplement arena”.
“Nutraceutical ingredients such as quercetin, curcumin, resveratrol and vitamin D3 all have demonstrable beneficial effects on health but, due to their lipophilicity, they are poorly soluble in the aqueous environment of the gastrointestinal tract,” she explained, adding that the bioavailability of liposomes is almost eight times higher compared to other technological carriers such as tablets and capsules.
Focus on recovery
McNamara highlights that Gencor's focus on recovery aligns with NutraIngredient-USA’s own industry trend spotting for 2022, which pointed to Immunity, Cognitive and eSports, Stress Management and Sleep, Microbiome Modulation and Liver Health as categories to watch.
“Gencor intends to pioneer the focus on recovery in almost all of these areas, not only with clinically tested effective ingredients but with delivery technologies to ensure the bioavailability and the efficacy of these ingredients in this space,” she said.
Topics covered will include how its Levagen+ (Palmitoylethanolamide), HydroCurc (Curcumin) and Affron (Saffron) ingredients aid in the response to injury, inflammation, stress and over-indulgence without the use of CBD.
New to the portfolio and prepped for its SSW debut is the 4’Liver supplement, which combines Terminalia chebula(fruit) and Sphaeranthus indicus (flower) botanicals to help prevent the progression of fatty liver, detox the liver and improve digestion and metabolism.
“Prescription-driven products are major stakeholders in this therapeutic segment across the globe, and even though approximately 40% of the marketplace is made of herbal supplements, we believed there was a need for an effective and potent ingredient that can make a huge impact on liver health,” McNamara said.
“We believed in the potential of this botanical combination due to its rich traditional Ayurvedic history and, like all our other branded ingredients we invested in clinical research to prove its efficacy and effectiveness.”
