Canadian algae-based omega-3 manufacturer Algarithm Ingredients recently signed a multi-year manufacturing deal with Seafood giant Thai Union Ingredients (TUI). TUI signed on for a multi-year manufacturing partnership, including collaboration at TUI’s global omega-3 R&D center. The Strategic Partnerships will allow Algarithm to increase capacity and scale, as it levels up competition in the omega-3 market.

“This new partnership will allow Algarithm to continue our aggressive growth trajectory and further expand new R&D and manufacturing initiatives. While Algarithm is proud and committed to maintaining a vegan-friendly business that produces no animal-derived ingredients, we have long acknowledged that algal Omega-3 ingredients have been built on a knowledge of processing and supply chains established by vegetable and fish oil industries,” said Ben Kelly, President of Algarithm. “As a global leader in the marine omega-3 space, Thai Union has a history and reputation for providing high quality ingredients. This partnership empowers us to leverage scale and quality systems that move us closer to our long-term goals — making sustainable algal Omega-3 ingredients the norm, not the alternative.”

TUI has invested in a new, state of the art omega-3 oil refining factory in Rostock, Germany. In this factory, the latest technology has been installed, allowing the company to produce pure Omega-3 oils.

The partnership not only enables growth in Algarithm’s current categories of supplements, food and beverage, but also enables the company to compete within a new category: infant formula.

As long-term suppliers to the infant formula industry, TUI said that in working with Algarithm, they can continue to offer existing customers as well as new customers a secure and reliable supply chain for safe, sustainable infant formula ingredients.

Last fall, Algarithm and Natures Crops International joined forces to combine regenerative agricultural practices with fish-free DHA to create a sustainable and traceable all-in-one omega-3 solution.
